It was not until the following evening, after Colonel Dutch and the fewer than three hundred fighters of the head of state's guard had battled the seemingly endless Warp Daemons and Chaos monsters, after their defenses had teetered on the brink of collapse, and after they had fought for over forty-eight hours with nearly everyone wounded and both mentally and physically exhausted to the point of madness and collapse, that their head of state, Annie, finally announced that the sacrificial array had been completed successfully.
However, even though that eerie contraption was finally complete, it did not mean their defensive mission was over or that they could evacuate and break out.
