The Vengeful Spirit was once one of the most powerful warships in the history of the Imperium of Man, and its sheer size was beyond doubt!
As a Gloriana-class Battleship, it wasn't the largest of its kind, but it still stretched more than twenty kilometers in length, and was at least several, if not over ten, kilometers wide and tall. That was the true origin of its nickname: "a solid, ancient-looking ingot of iron" when seen from the outside.
Like other large warships, its enormous hull contained many decks, each serving a different function or housing a different section.
These included, among others, flight decks, Macro-cannon decks, combat decks where the Astartes lived, command decks, equipment decks for the Adeptus Mechanicus, crew decks, and perhaps several or even more than a dozen habitation decks for laborers and slaves.
There were also decks and sections dedicated to engines, torpedoes, shells, and power plants, among other functions.
In short!
Since it was an "ancient-looking ingot of iron" more than twenty kilometers long and at least several kilometers wide and tall, each deck was roughly the same length and several kilometers wide—over a hundred square kilometers in area. With such an enormous hull and an absurd amount of living space, each deck was practically the size of a small city. The ship was therefore made up of layer upon layer of decks with different functions, forming a vast, self-contained ecosystem.
As a result, the number of humans and nonhumans living in this massive, self-contained ecosystem likely reached a staggering figure of at least a million. As for the exact number, even the ship's administrators probably didn't know.
That was precisely why, during the Great Crusade, ships like this could spend so long traveling through the Warp and realspace, fighting continuously, and sustain a
