A few hours later, escorted by military aircraft, the luxurious military transport carrying Annie, Luo Ji, and the others finally arrived safely on the island where the PDC headquarters was located: Vernor Island.
From far away, Annie and the others could see the modern interstellar city in the distance, a place that embodied the pinnacle of human technology. A space elevator port, enormous and resembling a railway track, soared straight into the sky.
At the sight, Luo Ji excitedly pulled out his phone and took pictures and selfies. He even remembered to post on his social media, making sure to show off to his long-uncontacted relatives, friends, colleagues, superiors, and students.
After all, this was Vernor Island!
Besides staff from the various PDC departments and the senior leadership at PDC headquarters, the island was also home to the best and brightest from every industry—and the real deal, too!

Kant had insisted that the PDC island was perfectly safe. Everyone who set foot on it was checked and monitored around the clock. The whole island was under ground and aerial surveillance, security guards were stationed everywhere, and drones filled the skies. There was absolutely no way the ETO could infiltrate it!
