Annie recognized it, of course. It was just one of the communication devices commonly used in the Koprulu Sector for cross-dimensional contact. She sometimes used one herself when she didn't feel like using her magic, so she knew them well and recognized it at a glance.

Without even needing to guess, Annie knew that the device was almost certainly from Shepard and the others in the Mass Effect world, passed along through Dr. Ding Yi. They wanted to get in touch and chat with her or something.
But even after Dr. Ding Yi and the others had left in a military aircraft in the middle of the night, and even by the following afternoon, when she was full and sprawled in the central hall with her head on Miss Ronan's lap, enjoying her attentions, Annie still couldn't make up her mind.
