Chapter 3046 (o)o It Really Was Pretty Dangerous
After dealing with the unruly Ox Guard, Annie, followed by a large group of wolf-demon "underlings," and Tibbers, who was wearing his "monkey" disguise, could finally enter Guanyin Monastery.
However, although some old local deity had said it had been rebuilt, Annie could only see that this so-called Guanyin Monastery was still in a terrible state of disrepair.
At any rate, what she saw was a place that seemed like a forgotten corner of time. The foundations appeared to have settled, leaving the temple halls crooked. The dark, dilapidated buildings stood there in silence, as though telling of their former glory and the vicissitudes of time.
The monastery had been built along the mountainside, surrounded by towering old trees and tangled vines. The wolf demons that had made their home there had done little to maintain it, so the place looked both mysterious and desolate.
The afterglow of the setting sun occasionally pierced the dense canopy, casting mottled light on the dark, cracked tiles and lending the quiet place a weighty sense of history.
Many of the monastery walls had begun to crumble, exposing the mottled bricks and stones beneath. Strange, suspicious marks covered them, as though each brick and tile had been carved with stories of the past, recording without mercy the passage of time and the ravages of wind and rain.
The monastery gate stood half-open, its bronze rings covered in green patina. A fawning wolf demon went forward and gave it a gentle push. The gate creaked with a dull, dry sound that echoed through the empty courtyard, adding to the sense of loneliness.
Inside the courtyard, several badly weathered statues of Guanyin stood in silence. Their faces had blurred beyond recognition, though their general features remained discernible.
