Night had fallen.
Tonight, the moonlight over Black Wind Mountain was thin, barely managing to pierce the dense clouds and cast mottled shadows across the land, making this desolate place feel even more deep and mysterious.
Although towering ancient trees stood throughout most of Guanyin Monastery, many of their leaves had withered yellow from neglect. Now and then, a night breeze stirred the dead branches and sent leaves skittering across the ground with a rustle, as if the un worshipped Buddhas were whispering, recounting tales of the past and sighing over the helplessness of the present.
Most of the monastery was shrouded in darkness, and the surroundings were so quiet that one could hear only the mountain wind and the occasional muffled howl of a wolf in the distance.
In the night, the monastery's outline and its tiled eaves flickered in and out of view between the swaying treetops, like a sleeping giant quietly lying in wait on this stretch of Black Wind Mountain.
The darkness hung ever lower, and the whole of Guanyin Monastery seemed to be wrapped in an invisible veil among the mountains, gradually cut off from the outside world.
Here, time seemed to have lost all meaning. Only the wind's soft murmur, the solitude of the night, and the wolves' occasional howls remained, lending the place a beauty tinged with sorrow that inspired both wonder and reverence.
Standing outside the monastery's main hall, looking at its half-open doors and the faint, flickering yellow light within, the wolf demon Guangzhi took a deep breath. He paused to clear his throat, then respectfully bowed and announced:
"Great King Monkey!"

"Dinner's simmering in the pot. Would the two of you like to come out and see if it suits your tastes?"
