As mentioned earlier, because of this world's unusual circumstances, people either had to go to bed early at night or stay at home. Unless it was an urgent matter or they had no other choice, no one would risk their life by going out after dark.
But if they stayed home all the time, they had to find something to do between nightfall and bedtime.
Especially those who didn't have a girlfriend, family, or spouse. When the nights were long and they couldn't sleep, they needed to find something safe to pass the time.
And so, under the threat of the supernatural, this world's online entertainment industry was forced to develop at high speed.
Of course, staying up late at home to play games still carried some risk. But people couldn't spend all their time living in fear, so when they weighed the two evils and chose the lesser, browsing the web, watching shows and short videos, streaming movies, chatting, watching livestreams, and playing games at home were all decent options.
And among those, online games were clearly more popular with young people.
Playing games cost next to nothing as long as you had enough self-control. And if you were smart enough, you could even make money. It was far cheaper than going out late at night to party, drink, eat barbecue, get milk tea, go shopping, sing karaoke, or hit on girls like people used to.
