The next day, the sky had only just begun to lighten.
Deep underground, the dome's "sky" over the small town of Iron Nest had yet to brighten completely. Annie was curled up in the bed of the reasonably spacious and comfortable single suite she'd been assigned, sleeping soundly.
Just then, a flurry of urgent knocking came from the little living room outside. Then, somehow, someone forced the door open and barged in.
As heavy footsteps approached, Annie heard the intruder brazenly open her bedroom door and walk in. She had no choice but to frown, turn over reluctantly, and sit up.
