Today, the Lighthouse's elevator platform was bustling with people coming and going, but an air of tension and oppression hung over it.
The Hunters were about to set out again!
Unlike before, however, the Hunters and Dusters who would be accompanying them had no idea what specific plan they were going to carry out this time. They had only been told to gather here today, ready to depart.
Although many of them had plenty of questions, they didn't dare go around asking.
That was because 4068, once a Duster and now a Hunter commander, stood like a foreman atop the highest stack of cargo crates in the middle of the platform. His expression was stern as he scanned the area with hawklike eyes, as if he feared someone might be slacking off.
Besides Suiying, who was watching over the Dusters and keeping them on task, the Hunter squad leaders—Carrow, Sean, Su Li, and others—were also making the rounds among the nearly two hundred Hunters and the armed Duster laborers. They were systematically inspecting and urging everyone to sort out their equipment and ammunition, check their supplies and vehicles, and make the final preparations for a highly classified plan.
Of course, they were mainly keeping an eye on the armed Duster laborers. The formal, well-trained Hunters needed no supervision; they already knew what to do. After all, they knew better than anyone how dangerous the surface was, and nobody would take chances with their own life.
So while the Duster laborers still needed guidance and scolding, the Hunters simply checked their weapons and ammunition with practiced ease, along with their armor and heavy blades. They examined everything down to the smallest detail, and nearly every one of them was armed to the teeth.
