The next afternoon, the weather was lovely.
Since it was part of her duties, Maido had to go inspect the town ruins outside the village.
It was a task White Boss had given her: she had to keep an eye on those Orks over the next few days and stop them from expanding their territory again, lest they disturb the Ravager Beasts in the ecological core zone—or some terrifying being in charge of the ecosystem.
White Boss needed to set aside time and energy to deal with the Lighthouse and seize that giant pot lid first. She didn't want the Orks causing any more trouble at a time like this.
Maido, of course, had no objections. She happily accepted the assignment and set off with Annie and Qianli, the Cantonese-speaking Awakened uncle.
Qianli, the uncle who could release plasma shields, was a bodyguard White Boss had forcibly assigned to Maido. Maido's safety was now crucial to Dragonbone Village—and even to all of Earth's surviving humans—and White Boss didn't want anything to happen to her!
Maido didn't think it was necessary, since she wouldn't go into the ecological zone and the Orks all obeyed her anyway. But White Boss was adamant, and Maido didn't feel right refusing, so she let him follow her for the time being.
As for Annie, she had no task. She was simply bored from having eaten too much, and since she'd just woken up from an afternoon nap, she insisted on tagging along to see what was going on.
