Fern exchanged a glance with the deadpan Frieren, then asked in surprise.

"Didn't you say you wanted to come learn magic?"

As she spoke, Annie gave them an exasperated eye-roll!
"Huh?"
Realizing what Annie meant, Fern naturally let out another gasp.
"Wait!"
"You mean... you can make the decision?"
"Your elder— I mean, that Archmage— won't blame you?"
Clearly, she hadn't expected things to take such an unexpected turn. She'd been ready to leave with Lady Frieren and never return to this city.

Annie rolled her eyes at them again. Without explaining, she headed down the lavish, carpeted corridor.

Fern and Frieren exchanged another glance, then resolutely followed.
They felt it wasn't quite right to use what amounted to a trick to deal with a child. But, just as Annie had said, they'd already come all this way. Now that there was a chance, they couldn't very well go home empty-handed.
So, unsure what Annie was up to, the two hurried after her.
"Um..."
"Are we going to the library?"
As they walked, Frieren suddenly spoke up.
She knew there was supposedly a magic library here, filled with countless spellbooks, each one different. The collection was said to be so vast it was hard to believe.
She didn't know if that was true, though. She'd only heard about it and had never seen it herself, so she couldn't say for sure.
"The library..."
"No need to rush!"

They did need to visit the library. Otherwise, how could she give them a little taste of the shock delivered by the greatest, greatest, greatest, greatest, greatest, greatest... greatest Arcane Archmage?
But they could go later. Not now!
