Fern had ultimately decided against staying at an inn. Instead, she rented a small, unremarkable house with a yard that stood empty in town, and Annie's carriage was parked in the yard of the shabby little place.
The reason Frieren and Fern had avoided the inn and rented a house was that they had taken on a job that would keep them in the Strait of Glanz, in the Central Lands, for quite a long time. They also needed to help the village chief clear the bay of sunken ships.
As for why two mages were working as cleaners, or why they were making such a long project out of clearing wrecks from the bay—so long that they'd rented a house and planned to stay for the long haul—Annie had no idea, and didn't want to know.
Because as soon as they'd settled in, she'd run off by herself to have fun. She hadn't given those two members of the master-and-apprentice duo, Fern and Frieren, a second thought!
Most adventurers were busy robbing and killing, digging up ruins, or trying to steal the hoards dragons had spent centuries amassing. But these two had gone and agreed to clear a bay for free just to get a fake magic book. Weren't they bored out of their minds?
