Across the vast expanse of the Central Land, the Likayel Grand Canyon stretched like a savage wound, cutting through the land and causing travelers and merchants making their way by road no end of trouble.

After the carriage had raced along the rugged mountain road for several days, it finally reached a spot near the Likayel Grand Canyon.
Once they arrived in the area they were heading for, Frieren jumped out of the carriage without a word. She led the puzzled Annie and Fern straight toward a roadless stretch of mountains deep within the canyon. After flying for a while, she began to walk, as if searching for something.
"Wow, this place is so desolate..."
"There are so many canyons, big and small..."
They had not gone far before Fern began to marvel at their surroundings.

But Annie had no time to marvel. She bounced along behind the other two, her little skirt swaying with every step. Every so often, she picked some unknown wild fruit, chased little animals, caught squirrels, or even raided birds' nests.
