The dozen-mile mountain road didn't take long to travel. About an hour later, after Annie had washed up, changed, and eaten a little, their luxurious carriage arrived safely at Vaul, the fortress city in the Kailer Canyon of the Central Kingdoms.

Once they'd arrived, Frieren and Fern decided to put their training on hold. They planned to go shopping and deal with their supplies, then return that evening and keep training in the arena.

After all, they still had a great many swords, scepters, and other weapons from that unlucky Red Mirror Dragon's lair, along with the armor of the dead and quite a few valuable bones from high-level monsters. They needed to get rid of all that stuff as soon as possible.

Once sold, those things would fetch a hefty sum. And since Vaul, the fortress city in Kailer Canyon, was a prosperous border city teeming with trade, Frieren and Fern figured there was no better place to fence their loot—er, to deal with their spoils of war.
