One side was clearly a human army. They seemed to be flying flags embroidered with some lord's crest, and the soldiers wore matching silver-white plate armor, carrying spears, longswords, crossbows, shields, and the like. They formed a tightly packed defensive formation.

They could even make out the faint silhouettes of mages flying here and there among the ranks, though there probably weren't many—perhaps only two or three.

As for how powerful those mages were, that was still unknown.

The opposing army, facing the humans from several hundred meters away, gave off a magical aura that was utterly different and deeply unsettling.

There were fewer of them, but compared with the human soldiers, they were taller and more grotesque. Most wore no armor, only rough carapaces or some kind of bizarre bone plating, and they gripped all manner of weapons radiating ominous magic.

They seemed far fewer than the human army, but the cold, invasive, destructive magical energy that surged through their ranks made it clear at a glance that they were not to be trifled with.
