The fortress city of Follis was quiet in the early morning. Although the alert had been lifted, the city still carried a trace of the chill and solemnity unique to a fortress.
Of course, maybe it was just too cold, and nobody was eager to come out first thing in the morning and freeze?
Across from an inn, in an open lot, a luxurious carriage that seemed out of place in its surroundings still sat quietly where it had been parked.
Over the past three days, the carriage and its owners had become the subject of whispered gossip among the nearby residents and innkeepers.
After all, a group of foreign travelers with such a luxurious carriage shouldn't have been short of money. Yet they'd chosen to brave the elements and "camp" in the street, crammed into their carriage, rather than stay at an inn. That alone was strange enough.
And starting on the second day, the plump, purple-haired girl had repeatedly bought large quantities of supplies and stuffed them all into the carriage, which looked as though it had very little room. That was even stranger.
But, fortunately!
Despite their many questions, the four women seemed to be adventurers—and clearly powerful mages who weren't to be trifled with. On top of that, they had an extraordinary air about them and were obviously either wealthy or high-ranking. They were clearly no ordinary people. So although the locals were curious and talked about them, none of the foolish or thuggish sorts dared approach them and cause trouble. Everyone tacitly kept their distance, at most casting a curious glance as they passed by.
The four of them had kept fairly busy during those three days.
