They say that when primordial Chaos first divided, clear and turbid separated, giving rise to the Three Realms of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. The world stretched hundreds of billions of miles from north to south, above and below, and from east to west. The Four Continents stood side by side: the Eastern Victory Divine Continent, the Western Ox Continent, the Southern Jambudvipa Continent, and the Northern Kuru Continent. Countless kalpas had passed since then.
In the current kalpa, the Heavenly Emperor had risen by Heaven's mandate tens of thousands of years ago. He had entered Chaos to contend for Zhuolu, and in the end had established his rule over Qiankun, founding the supreme Divine Court and proclaiming himself ruler of a Celestial Empire. All the myriad beings across the Three Realms and Four Continents bowed before him.
It was said that the Heavenly Emperor's palace stood in the Heavenly Court's White Jade Capital, atop the Thirty-Three Heavens. There were twelve five-story towers and twenty-four thousand palace halls, their jade doors studded with golden nails. Colorful Phoenixes danced before vermilion gates beneath a thousand rays of rosy light. Auspicious vapors filled the air, a sight beyond the comprehension of mortals.
Below the immortal palaces of the White Jade Capital, where the Heavenly Emperor dwelled on the Thirty-Three Heavens, lay the Celestial Empire's capital, Jinling. The city spanned ten thousand miles in every direction and was vast enough to house the most illustrious cultivation clans of the age.
Among them were the four great cultivation clans whose ancestors had followed the Heavenly Emperor into battle and won unparalleled merits: the Wang, Xue, Shi, and Jia families.
