As it turned out, Lin Daiyu had still been worrying too much and imagining things.
Perhaps, in Grandmother Jia's eyes, what had happened between Jia Baoyu and the others was nothing more than a childish squabble. As an elder, she regarded all her grandchildren as equally precious. Though Grandmother Jia could not help favoring one over another and doting more on her own grandson, she would never take her anger out on her maternal granddaughter.
Thus, when Lin Daiyu went to pay her respects to Grandmother Jia the next day, before she could even apologize, Grandmother Jia instead comforted her, telling her not to dwell on it. Just like that, the matter was brushed aside. It had never been as complicated as Daiyu had imagined.
And since Grandmother Jia did not mind, whether her second aunt had taken offense was no longer so important.
There would probably still be some resentment, but to take offense at such a minor incident—one Baoyu had started without cause—and drive away her maternal niece was something that aunt would never be able to do.
So, the matter passed just like that, and all the tears Lin Daiyu had shed while foolishly overthinking things the night before had been for nothing.
While Lin Daiyu was paying her respects to Grandmother Jia and being kept for breakfast, Jia Zheng was chatting with Jia Lian in a side hall in the front courtyard of Rongguo Immortal Estate. Jia Lian had come to report on some matters within the estate.
Jia Lian handled the household affairs of Rongguo Mansion on a daily basis. He and his wife, Wang Xifeng, essentially managed the outside and inside affairs respectively, while Jia Zheng generally left the household matters alone.
But no matter how little Jia
