No matter how slow it was, it was still flying!
Before long, the enormous white airship had become a blurry white speck on the horizon. It was the cloud-carriage airship carrying Rongguo Immortal Estate's funeral procession. At last, it vanished behind the distant blue sky and white clouds, disappearing from sight.
As for the nearby streets and rooftops, once every scrap of white spirit money had been snatched up, the alley gradually returned to Tranquility. Only in the distance, toward where the cloud-carriage airship had gone, did the market streets and main thoroughfares still echo faintly with a great deal of commotion.
Clearly, quite a few common folk were still trailing after the giant airship, gathering and moving in the direction it had gone. They would probably be busy all day.
After all, what had fallen from the sky might not have been meat pies, but it had certainly been money!
Each scrap was worth five copper coins, and five copper coins could buy five meat pies. That really was like having meat pies fall from the sky!
As for bad luck and all that, what could matter more to poor folk than something they could actually gain?

But Annie didn't care about any of that. She remained seated on the wooden railing on the restaurant's second floor, swinging her feet and propping her chin in her hands. Her jade-green eyes gazed toward the spot where the airship had disappeared, her little face wearing the lazy contentment of someone who'd eaten her fill and the listlessness of someone who'd finished watching a spectacle.
The afternoon breeze carried a faint chill, stirring Annie's reddish-gold hair and the old woman's graying temples.
Neither of them spoke again. Each simply watched what she wanted to watch and thought her own thoughts.
