Just as Superman Clark was about to press his advantage and keep pummeling the enemy's head, trying to knock him unconscious—or disperse the strange power surrounding him, so he could defeat or subdue him—something changed again. For some reason, a thick arm suddenly reached out from behind him. As if grabbing a child, it seized his right arm while he was throwing a punch. Another hand clamped around his neck... And that wasn't all. Two more equally thick arms grabbed his left arm and wrapped around his waist, forcing him to release the bald monster he had pinned beneath him and beaten down into the desert's underlying bedrock.
Superman Clark thought he had almost succeeded...
He was sure he'd figured out something. He really could feel the other man's resistance weakening. He'd seemed just on the verge of being knocked unconscious or killed. At any rate, that was what Clark had felt, though he had no idea why.
