Inside Umbrella, in the secure facilities of the enormous underground research base belonging to one of the company's Raccoon City branches, the employees and researchers streamed toward the corridors and elevators as the magnetic voice of a woman on the PA system echoed around them. They were getting ready to begin four hours of intense work that morning.
However, in the long employees' lounge just outside the corridor, a middle-aged blonde woman in a white lab coat and gold-rimmed glasses was pressing a little girl onto a bench by the elevator. The girl wore a little red dress, clutched a plush teddy bear in her left arm, and greedily licked a huge, multicolored swirl lollipop in her right hand—one nearly half the size of her face. The woman finally crouched down with a helpless sigh and looked straight into the girl's eyes.
