As neon lights came on, dazzling lights of every color began flashing along the street—on signs, skyscrapers, lampposts, the outlines of pedestrian bridges, and even a huge airship circling overhead. They adorned this beautiful, bustling city, while the crowds on the streets grew lively and thronged together.
Nearly half of the pedestrians here were students in school uniforms. The girls, in particular, wearing short skirts and various short-sleeved summer uniforms, made this enormous, enclosed, circular city—with its population of 2.3 million and relatively advanced technology—seem especially enchanting at this hour...
However,
Since night had already fallen, there were hardly any elementary or middle school students left on the streets. Only a smaller number of taller students who seemed to be in high school could still wander freely. The rest were university students, in pairs or small groups and no longer bound by school rules, office workers starting to enjoy their nightlife after work, and various assorted idlers who seemed to have crawled out of nowhere.
Of course, Little Annie had no idea whether those strange women in student uniforms, flirting with creepy old men on the street, were really students... In any case, she didn't care about that sort of nonsense. She was simply wandering aimlessly wherever she pleased.
