The intermittent pillars of fire shooting into the sky in the dead of night, the deafening explosions, the horrifying roars of some unknown animal that had continued without pause, and the enormous shadow in the sky that anyone who wasn't blind could see had finally turned the apartment buildings and towers around the park in the heart of the Academy City district into a bustling, noisy scene.
The windows that had gone from dark to bright, the flashes of phones and cameras occasionally flickering in the distance, and the gasps and shrieks that rang out from time to time made it clear that the onlookers who had managed to watch from afar, along with the students of Academy City, were anything but calm.

As the sirens drew closer and a sharp screech of brakes rang out, an armored vehicle bearing the insignia of the Anti-Skill unit finally skidded to a stop at the end of a bridge, outside the battlefield where the human-dragon fight was taking place.
Two Anti-Skill officers in blue-and-black-striped riot gear leaped out of the vehicle and immediately froze, staring at the enormous monster roaring and circling above the park in the distance.
Clearly, the terrifying and wondrous sight, unlike anything they had ever seen before, had left them both stunned.
"Aiho..."
"Look at that thing flying in the sky. What is it?!"
The female officer with thick glasses on her nose reached up to adjust them. Eyes wide behind her high-prescription lenses, she stared fixedly at the enormous shadow circling in the distance... Honestly, if they hadn't been ordered by their superiors to come here, if more police sirens hadn't been sounding in the distance and drawing closer, if the alert hadn't already been raised within the city's public safety
