The battle in the abandoned factory last night—the place that had been melted by the flames into something like a pool of volcanic lava—was now none of Annie's group's concern. They didn't care what had become of it, and they had no intention of asking!
Likewise, they had no mind to worry about the storm that the resulting events had stirred up in Academy City... because they were all gathered in the mansion Annie had bought earlier! Annie herself, Kuroko Shirai, Mikoto Misaka, Index, Kazari Uiharu, Ruiko Saten, and even Misaka 9982, who had narrowly been saved and was still lying unconscious in bed—all of them were inside this luxurious house that served as their secret base.
More importantly, everyone who had taken part in last night's operation to destroy the "factory" and the "facility," including Annie, Mikoto, and Kuroko, had now been declared wanted by Academy City's security forces—the Anti-Skill officers and the Judgment members!
That was right: wanted, as dangerous fugitives!!
Perhaps it was because Annie and Mikoto Misaka had openly sabotaged Accelerator's Level 6 Shift Project. Perhaps it was because a certain little girl's Level 5 pyrokinesis had proved far too destructive: not only had she defeated Academy City's strongest, Accelerator, head-on, she had also effortlessly burned the entire abandoned factory district to the ground. For all they knew, the flames might spread and destroy the entire city!
Or perhaps...
It was because of everything a certain little girl had done, including her earlier "illegal" infiltration of Academy City and theft of funds, permissions, identities, and so on, until certain organizations or people in positions of power, who had previously chosen to tolerate and observe her, had finally reached the limit of their patience.
Whatever the reason, the situation now was this:
