The first seven floors had been mostly empty. There wasn't even a trace of anything having weathered away into dust. It wasn't until Ye Wen reached the eighth floor and slid down that he saw the same scene as before: a single large door, with "Demon Suppressing Tower, Eighth Floor!" written on it.
The moment Ye Wen stepped inside, he was so startled that he hurriedly backed out and slammed the door shut.
"Snakes, snakes! Such a huge snake! It scared me to death!"
Ye Wen was scared witless. He'd been afraid of snakes since he was little, and what was this he'd seen today? It was far, far bigger than the snake he'd seen on the first day he arrived on this continent.
When Ye Wen opened the door again, he'd caught only a fleeting glimpse, but he'd noticed that this floor was much larger than the ones above. His view stretched so far that he couldn't see the other end.
Unlike the floors above, this one didn't have a bunch of little rooms. It seemed to be just one enormous room. Just inside the entrance, a huge snake lay across the very center.
Ye Wen hadn't gotten a good look at how long it was, but he'd seen that the snake was as thick as a heavy freight truck. It looked like a train lying across the middle of the room.
Ye Wen didn't know whether the Giant Dragon was dead or alive. His heart was still pounding furiously—the visual shock had been too overwhelming! After doing his best to calm down, he tried to encourage himself again.
"Don't worry. Don't be afraid. Just think of it as a Harmony Express train painted with a giant snake. It's just a lifeless thing, right?"
Ye Wen had gone from being startled out of his wits to feeling excitement surge through him. A Demonic Beast this enormous—just how much energy would its Demon Pill or Devil Core contain? The very thought filled him with boundless fighting spirit.
Ye Wen carefully pushed open the eighth-floor door again. Seeing the Giant Dragon a second time, his heart still pounded wildly. He followed its body, searching for its head.
Then he suddenly saw feet on the Giant Dragon. A snake with feet? But when he finally saw its head, Ye Wen once again became tongue-tied.
"This, this isn't a snake! It's a dragon! This is actually the legendary dragon!"
Looking at the dragon's majestic head, Ye Wen realized it looked much like the dragons in ancient legends. It was truly breathtaking. Each scale was about the size of a person, and beneath the cold light of the Glowing Stones, the scales shone with a deep green luster.
This was a huge Azure Dragon. Was it the Azure Dragon from the legend of the Azure Dragon in the east and the White Tiger in the west?
Just as Ye Wen was staring, spellbound, a dignified voice reached his ears.
"Human? Who are you? Where's that old Xingyu?"
The voice suddenly boomed like a bell tolling at dusk and dawn, startling Ye Wen into a panic. He hurriedly retreated to the doorway.
Only then did he realize that the Azure Dragon, whose eyes had been closed just moments ago, had opened them! Its enormous eyes were like stars in the universe, dazzling and brilliant. It was as though they could see through time and space, radiating endless majesty!
What surprised Ye Wen even more was that the Azure Dragon had just spoken in a language he'd never heard before. Yet as soon as the sound entered his mind, it was translated directly into words he could understand.
Was this ability one of the Azure Dragon's powers, or had that mysterious voice once given him the memory of languages and writing?
"Are you a Divine Dragon? I was framed and thrown in here."
Ye Wen said this with great trepidation. He kept his eyes fixed on the Azure Dragon. If it so much as moved, he'd run out at once and slam the door shut.
"You're not one of that old Xingyu's people? Where is he? Where is he? We agreed he'd let me out after three thousand years of imprisonment. How dare he break his word? Isn't he afraid of the Dragon Race's revenge? Where are the members of my Azure Dragon Clan? Why haven't they come to save me? I came here willingly for the sake of my people! Have they all forgotten I exist?"
The Azure Dragon suddenly grew wild with agitation, and its earth-shaking voice reverberated through the space, making Ye Wen's ears ache. Only then did Ye Wen realize how incredibly high the ceiling was. The Azure Dragon had already soared several hundred meters into the air.
How was that possible? The distance from the first floor to here couldn't be more than a hundred or two hundred meters. Why hadn't the Azure Dragon hit the ceiling after rising hundreds of meters? Could this be a different space altogether? After pondering for a while, Ye Wen reached a conclusion: this was a small world.
After the Azure Dragon had risen to a certain height, a glowing white chain suddenly appeared above its head and pulled it back, preventing it from rising any farther.
Ye Wen saw that the chain had appeared in a very strange way. It had suddenly materialized above the dragon's head, and the other end was fastened to the massive stone pillar the Azure Dragon had initially been coiled around.
Was the Azure Dragon bound? What kind of chain was this? It was powerful enough to restrain a Giant Dragon at least seventy or eighty zhang long.
After venting its fury, the Azure Dragon was finally pulled back to the stone pillar by the chain. The white chain vanished once more.
"Kid, what's happening outside now? Where did the City Lord of this city go?"
The enormous Azure Dragon looked at Ye Wen and slowly stretched its head toward him. It stopped several dozen meters away, as a flash of white light appeared again and the enormous chain held its head back.
