Wang Yang was the manager of Sifang Doyaoguan. He had no particular talents, but his memory was excellent.
So when Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan, the direct descendants of two prominent Modu families, entered—
He recognized them immediately and hurried over, asking, "Are you two young masters here to fight demon beasts? I'll arrange the strongest Safety Officer for you!"
Bai Mo did not waste words. He nodded in greeting, glanced at the badge on Wang Yang's chest, and stated his purpose directly:
"We only learned magic recently and will be heading into the wilderness before long. We came here to get used to it in advance. Manager Wang, just arrange an ordinary demon beast."
"Certainly! I'll have someone take you two to the arena first." Wang Yang smiled at Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan, then turned and called over an ordinary receptionist.
"Take these two young masters to Arena 102."
"Certainly." The pretty female receptionist in uniform smiled at Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan. "Please follow me."
The arena was built underground and was quite large, at least as big as their school's athletic field. The floor was made of special Magic Stone and was exceptionally hard.
After imprinting the disposable defensive magic equipment issued by the Doyaoguan, the two waited quietly.
Before long, a middle-aged magician with a steady, restrained aura walked in. As soon as he entered, he introduced himself crisply to Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan. "My name is Yan Feng. Earth Element and Light Element, Mid-Tier Level 3. When are you two ready to begin?"
Bai Mo looked at Zhou Tianyuan beside him. Seeing that his expression was normal, he gave him a questioning look. When Zhou Tianyuan nodded, Bai Mo said:
"We can start now."
At the same time, he curiously surveyed the arena, wondering where the demon beast would emerge from.
Then, at the other end of the arena, a section of the ground slowly sank. When it rose again, a Sword Pig the size of a sedan was lying prone atop it.
It looked like it had not woken up yet.
At the same time, Safety Officer Yan Feng's voice sounded beside them. "This is a Sword Pig, a demon beast with relatively balanced attributes. It will wake up in three minutes. Get yourselves ready."
After saying that, he shifted several times and concealed himself in an inconspicuous corner.
"While we have time, put a layer of Water Barrier on us." Bai Mo clenched his fists and took a deep breath to calm himself. He realized that he was actually looking forward to the coming battle.
Zhou Tianyuan was a Water Magician with considerable talent. In only five seconds, a deep blue Star Orbit lit up beside him.
"Water Barrier—Dissolution!"
As the spell was released, the air immediately became somewhat damp. Bai Mo saw a translucent blue stream of water, thin as a ribbon, condense and envelop Zhou Tianyuan's entire body.
Successfully casting a spell seemed to ease some of Zhou Tianyuan's inner tension.
Bai Mo clearly sensed that this time, Zhou Tianyuan only needed four seconds before casting Water Barrier again. A shimmering ribbon of water enveloped Bai Mo.
"Not bad, Old Zhou. Your casting speed has improved again."
"It's nothing special. I'm still not as good as you."
"Of course!"
"You really don't know how to be modest." Zhou Tianyuan complained speechlessly.
Bai Mo did not care in the slightest and flicked his hand. "Because I'm honest. Unlike some people, who are secretly overjoyed but pretend not to care."
"..."
Zhou Tianyuan felt that before the battle had even begun, he was already injured.
As they spoke, the Sword Pig had already awakened. An invisible pressure gathered as it rose to its feet.
It no longer had the foolish look of an ordinary pig, causing the already nervous pair to tense up even further.
The Sword Pig ended its pretended sleep and charged at the two humans opposite it, its sharp tusks gleaming coldly.
As it ran, its heavy footsteps kicked up clouds of dust. A savage, bloodthirsty aura rushed at them head-on.
Faced with the immense ferocious pressure, beads of sweat emerged on Zhou Tianyuan's forehead. He was struggling to overcome his fear of the demon beast's aura.
The starlight condensing in his hand also swayed constantly, like a water surface on the verge of shattering.
However, Bai Mo quickly adapted to the demon beast's fierce aura.
"Mind Control!"
A hundred meters was nothing to a Servant Level demon beast. Much less to Bai Mo, a Space Element magician.
"Void Claw!"
The spell he had prepared long ago was released with a thought, and silver light suddenly flashed.
Under Bai Mo's control, the power of space formed an invisible giant claw. It easily and accurately seized the charging Sword Pig.
Abruptly restrained, the Sword Pig's originally swift charge halted.
"Hey, you stopped it!" Having adapted to the demon beast's savage aura, Zhou Tianyuan exclaimed in delight at the sight.
The air in that area twisted and rippled violently.
The enormous impact generated by the Sword Pig's heavy body placed considerable pressure on Bai Mo, but compared to the surging force of his thoughts, that pressure was insignificant.
Spatial light flickered. The hand of the Void Claw swung hard, flinging the Sword Pig more than ten meters away and smashing it onto the ground.
"Ah, I didn't use enough force!" Bai Mo was slightly surprised when he saw that the Sword Pig had not crashed into the wall as he had intended.
It was no big deal. He just needed more practice.
Amid the swirling dust, the Sword Pig had already climbed back to its feet.
The Sword Pig hunched its body, making the sword-like spines along its back protrude even more menacingly. The spines shot free from its back like arrows, converging as they flew toward them.
Zhou Tianyuan's face paled in alarm. Though he knew he would be fine, facing those cold, gleaming sword spines that poured down like rain still made his scalp tingle.
It felt as though, in the next instant, he would be pierced through by countless arrows!
"What are you panicking for? Just get Water Barrier ready in case something goes wrong."
As Bai Mo spoke, silver light blazed in his eyes fixed on the incoming spines. A silver star arc flashed past.
"Mind Control—Repel!"
He swept a hand forward as though shooing away flies, and layer upon layer of Space Power surged toward the sword spines that were about to nail them.
"Puff puff puff puff~!"
Zhou Tianyuan watched helplessly as the seemingly overwhelming rain of sword spines crashed into an unstoppable gale and torrent, scattering in every direction.
Not a single one reached them.
"Damn! That was awesome!" Zhou Tianyuan exclaimed. "Was that One Thought Star Orbit just now?"
"Not yet. About one second."
There were standards for judging One Thought Star Orbit. In any case, he had not reached it yet.
A faint smile curled Bai Mo's lips, but his gaze never left the Sword Pig, which had already started running again while he dealt with the rain of spines.
The distance between them was now less than fifty meters.
A streak of silver light flashed again.
With a slap of his hand, he interrupted the Sword Pig's rapid charge, sending it tumbling backward at an angle.
"Grrr~~~~!"
A panicked cry escaped its mouth.
Having halted its attack, Bai Mo gathered all his focus and clenched his hand forcefully toward the direction in which the Sword Pig was rolling.
The Sword Pig's body suddenly stiffened. It stopped moving and slowly floated into the air.
Then, controlled by an invisible force, it flew toward the Arena wall, accelerating faster and faster. Just as it was about to crash into the wall—
A golden shield appeared out of thin air, taking the impact in place of the wall.
"Alright, you've won." Yan Feng appeared. Before they could see what he had done, the Sword Pig silently fainted.
He walked over to Bai Mo and Zhou Tianyuan, surprise in his eyes. "Facing an ordinary Servant Level Demon Beast head-on shouldn't be a problem for you. Do you want to continue?"
"No. I don't have much Magic Energy left." Bai Mo shook his head, while Zhou Tianyuan beside him looked somewhat puzzled.
Having tasted the thrill of defeating a Demon Beast for the first time, he was still savoring the feeling. He said:
"Why stop? Magic Energy can recover."
"There are only a little over twenty types of Demon Beasts here. We came to familiarize ourselves with them and get some training. But doing too much won't help either. This isn't the real wilderness, after all."
Zhou Tianyuan pondered for a moment, then nodded.
The reason he had been willing to come along was because he truly feared that, if he encountered a Demon Beast in the wild, he would be so frightened that he could not move.
Although he had not played much of a role in the Arena just now, the Sword Pig's demonic aura had nearly intimidated him into dispersing the magic in his hands.
Bai Mo, on the other hand, had remained completely calm. After giving it some thought, Zhou Tianyuan understood why. Mental Element mages had strong resistance against all kinds of intimidation.
And seeing how Bai Mo could even lift such a large Sword Pig, his Mental Realm was definitely above Level One.
Everyone knew that if one's Mental Power was not strong enough—
A Space Element mage was nothing but a weakling.
Thinking this, Zhou Tianyuan asked, "Bai Mo, what level is your Mental Realm?"
"Level Two? I don't know either. I've never tested it. Anyway, it hasn't reached the Mid-Realm." Bai Mo answered casually as he walked. He had also looked into the classifications of the Mental Realm.
Mental Power realms were divided into nine levels. Levels One through Three were minor realms, Levels Four through Six were the Mid-Realm, and Levels Seven through Nine were major realms.
Within the minor realms, the gap between the second and third realms was not great. Without testing, it truly was not always possible to tell them apart.
Zhou Tianyuan curled his lip at the mention of the Mid-Realm. "You think I can't tell you haven't reached the Mid-Realm? If you really had, wouldn't you have been able to smack that Sword Pig to death with one slap?"
"Yeah." Bai Mo shrugged. Seeing that they had reached the entrance of Doyaoguan, he said leisurely, "I'm going to the music festival. You can head back by yourself."
With that, he casually waved and headed straight off in one direction.
Zhou Tianyuan checked the time and shook his head. "This guy really is just like the rumors say—he never takes proper business seriously. It's almost seven already. Doesn't he need to cultivate?"
After muttering a few words, he hailed a car and disappeared into the twilight as well.
