Background

Ding Yumian's first recorded awakening causes a wave that knocks out two classes of teachers and students. Bai Mo is the sole unaffected witness, while Dean Xiao immediately removes her from the scene with Instantaneous Movement 2.

A year and a half later, she attends Pearl Affiliated Middle School under Dean Xiao's oversight. She reconnects with Bai Mo at Mingzhu Library, where she identifies herself as a Mind Element mage and agrees to discuss Mental Power cultivation with him 19.

She eventually reveals that she is a Mind Element Calamity User. Her talent, called Spiritual Affliction, leaves her vulnerable to losing control; historical records indicate that some Calamity Users became disasters while others mastered their gifts 73 127. The Institute for Others was originally meant to manage her, but she avoided its supervision because she maintained control 81.

A Baize Totem Artifact awakens a split soul contained in her hair accessory and binds to her. Baize becomes her guardian spirit beast, helping her fully stabilize Spiritual Affliction so that she no longer fears losing control 123 125 127.
