"Lin Xiao, are you really moving out?"
In the apartment, Tang Wanru leaned against the doorframe and watched Lin Xiao busily packing up her room, clearly reluctant to see her go. Her voice was soft and timid, like a little abandoned animal.
"Didn't I tell you? My workplace is too far away. I've been running back and forth every day lately—an hour to work, an hour home. All my time is spent commuting. If I move somewhere closer, I can sleep a little longer in the mornings."
"But your assistant job isn't even that busy. You're only an intern..."
Without stopping what she was doing, Lin Xiao said, "I'll be graduating in another six months. By then, I'll be properly joining the workforce, and I'll have to move anyway. I'm just getting used to living alone first, so it won't be so hard later."
"Then let me help you," Tang Wanru said. "Gu Li and I can go to your new place with you later and help you set it up."
"Oh, no need. I can manage on my own. I've barely done anything by myself all these years. I feel like I'm about to become some useless loser who can't even take care of herself."
The two of them chatted and laughed as they finished packing. Lin Xiao hauled two large suitcases out of her room.
Gu Li was sitting on the living room sofa, holding a fashion magazine as though she were completely indifferent to everything else.
After hesitating for a moment, Lin Xiao slowly said, "Gu Li, I'm leaving."
Gu Li lowered the magazine that had been covering her face and looked at Lin Xiao expressionlessly. "Be careful living alone. If anything happens, come find me anytime."
