The plump, pale dumplings went into the pot, rolling in the boiling water.
"I heard dumplings are done after adding cold water three times and bringing it back to a boil three times. Should we add some cold water?" Gu Yixin held a pair of chopsticks, her bowl already prepared with garlic sauce. She stared at the dumplings in the pot, waiting to dig in.
Bi Shisan said, "That's just a way for people who can't judge dumplings to estimate the cooking time. I don't need it. Once the dumplings float to the surface, wait a little longer and they'll be ready. You wouldn't understand the reasoning behind it."
"Yes, yes, you're the one who knows everything." Gu Yixin curled her lip and looked at Wang Yan. "How did you two end up together?"
"Everyone else went home, so the two of us kept each other company. But we only got together today. Before this, he was busy assembling computers and didn't have time to eat with me."
Wang Yan picked up some pickled vegetables. "There are still several days left. Why did you come back early?"
"There was nothing interesting to do at home. I'd already met up with my classmates and friends, and I was alone at home anyway. I might as well come back to school early. At least nobody here tells me off for staying up late or sleeping in. I can sleep however I want."
Gu Yixin sighed as well. Clearly, she had not slept well at home these past few days and had gotten quite an earful.
"I'm different. I never sleep in." Bi Shisan watched the dumplings gradually rise in the pot. They were almost done. "Wang Yan doesn't sleep in either. He even gets up early every day to run and exercise."
