Borg stood atop the city wall, anxiously watching the humans' defensive lines hold firm despite his army's relentless assaults. Yet the Skaven Warlord was unwilling to commit his finest Stormvermin and Rat Ogres. He hadn't even sent in the Warpfire Throwers or Ratling Gunners.
Instead, he kept these troops waiting in reserve and sent only Clanrats and Slave Rats to their deaths.
The Skaven's strategy was to wear their enemies down, but that wasn't Borg's only consideration.
The reason was simple: he was saving his strength. Defeating the humans would be a victory for the Skaven, but it wouldn't benefit him much. Any troops he lost, however, would be a real loss to him. They were the foundation of his power as a warlord. If he lost too many loyal, dependable soldiers, his underlings could easily betray and kill him. Plenty of others had their eyes on his position.
Borg Zap Struk stomped about furiously. "D-damn that Grey Seer Spat! Where, where has it and its army gone? It won't answer the bell! No, no. Absolutely not. I won't allow it!"
Borg didn't want to lose too many troops just to take this fortress. True, he'd had no other choice but to trust the Grey Seer's so-called advice and attack Erbeis Lake.
But he was a Skaven, after all. "Shortsighted" was an apt description of the way they thought.
Borg knew full well that if he spent too much of his strength, then even if the Grey Seer hadn't planned to take over his clan, it would surely seize the opportunity once it saw how badly his forces had been depleted.
So, to be on the safe side, he'd better take over its clan first.
