Louen was born to the legitimate wife of the former Duke of Leocornwall, making him a legitimate son. However, when he was young, he lived a wild and unrestrained life and was particularly fond of sleeping around. At a very young age, he fathered an illegitimate child whose mother was of low birth. The former Duke of Leocornwall considered this a terrible disgrace and ordered the child abandoned in the wilderness. From then on, the relationship between the duke and his son Louen became extremely strained.

Fortunately, after this incident, Louen understood the mistakes he had made. He began to grow from a dissolute knight errant into an excellent Kingdom Knight. So, to avoid this problem, a Grail Knight had to remain a duke unless he committed a serious offense, or chose to give up his ducal position outright.

And there was no doubt that a duke who had undergone the Grail Trials could not simply abandon his responsibilities.

A duke could retire only when his heir became a Grail Knight. Depending on his choice, he might go to the Lady of the Lake's God's Domain and serve her, for instance.

That was one of a Bretonnian duke's duties and responsibilities.
