Thirty meters outside the tent, beneath a black mushroom over twenty meters tall, a lanky, gaunt figure who looked as if a gust of wind could carry him away was flailing wildly, covered from head to toe in white spider silk. Dust and lichen clung all over him. He rolled about miserably, the debris sticking to him growing thicker and heavier, his movements becoming slower and slower.
Several Ghost-Faced Banshee Grasses had wrapped their roots around his ears and were letting out hysterical wails. The piercing, grating shrieks made him shake his head again and again, but he could never rid himself of these headache-inducing little devils.
Ghost-Faced Banshee Grass was a relatively rare and troublesome thing even in the Abyssal world. Above ground, it looked like ordinary wild grass, but underground, it had thick, fleshy roots the width of a thumb and over a foot long, shaped like tiny human bodies. A lifelike ghost face grew upon those swollen roots. Once someone disturbed them, they would shoot up from underground, wrap themselves around the person's ears, and unleash banshee shrieks.
Unlike a true banshee's howl, the banshee shrieks emitted by Ghost-Faced Banshee Grass did not possess the dreadful power to destroy a soul and kill someone instantly. But their screams could split one's head with pain, throw one off balance, and make it impossible to stand steadily. They were just as troublesome a plant.
Many demon lords loved planting huge quantities of these inconspicuous little things around their castles. Any creature that dared approach their residences without following the safe path would be swarmed by tens of thousands of Ghost-Faced Banshee Grasses. That vast tide of sound was enough to make someone vomit blood in agony.
