Background / History

Tang Hao is Ah Yin’s husband and Tang San’s father. Ah Yin is the Blue Silver Emperor, a soul beast who sacrificed herself and remained in the form of Blue Silver Grass. Su Mo recalls that the exposure of her soul-beast identity brought Spirit Hall against the family, after which Tang Hao’s father died from anger and the Clear Sky Sect sealed its mountain 11 28.

Tang Hao later lived with Tang San in Holy Soul Village as a slovenly, drunken blacksmith. He concealed his identity and family history from his son, believing that revealing them too early would place a heavy burden on him 1 11.

He kept Ah Yin and her Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone in a hidden chamber behind a waterfall near the village. The bone was a keepsake intended for Tang San 2 3.

Appearance

  • Everyday appearance: A slovenly drunkard with tangled hair 1 10.
  • Concealed identity: Wears a black robe while traveling and secretly following Tang San 10 25 50.
  • Changed features: Yu Xiaogang initially struggles to recognize him after twenty years, though traces of his former appearance remain 34.
  • Voice: Speaks in a hoarse voice during his visit to Yu Xiaogang 34.

Personality

Tang Hao is deeply attached to his family. He panics when his own aura threatens Ah Yin’s fragile plant body, immediately restrains himself, and apologizes. When she later loses her vitality, he cradles her and weeps, believing that she has finally left him 3 14.

His protection of Tang San combines secrecy, practical advice, and violent retaliation. He encourages his son to befriend the talented Su Mo as a possible future source of support. Although he allows Tang San to suffer a schoolyard beating as a lesson in overconfidence, he plans to punish Xiao Chenyu’s father afterward 11 32.

He is initially skeptical of unfamiliar cultivation theories, particularly whale rubber’s body-strengthening effects. After seeing Su Mo and Xiao Wu’s thousand-year first soul rings, he regrets not testing the theory sooner, while also blaming Yu Xiaogang for neglecting it 13 33.

Abilities & Skills

Titled Douluo Power

  • Overwhelming aura: His released aura presses creatures throughout an entire valley flat against the ground. It also endangers Ah Yin, forcing him to withdraw it 3.
  • Nine soul rings: Reveals all nine when confronting Zhao Wuji 50.
  • Physical combat: Sends Zhao Wuji flying through two large trees with a single kick 50.
  • Power limits: Considers one hundred-thousand-year soul beast manageable, but two troublesome. Against the Myriad Demon King’s near–Limit Douluo aura, he believes even his full arsenal would only allow him to hold out briefly 10 26.

Clear Sky Hammer

  • Combat use: Wields a vastly larger version of the hammer martial soul Tang San originally possessed 26.
  • Defensive intervention: Blocks Er Ming’s fist and engages both Er Ming and Da Ming so Tang San’s group can escape 26.
  • Attribute knowledge: Recognizes the Clear Sky Sect’s hammer as an example of power developed to an exceptional extreme 13.

Spiritual Perception and Flight

  • Area search: Flies above the waterfall and extends his spiritual power to search for the stolen soul bone 3.
  • Aura detection: Recognizes the Myriad Demon King’s powerful aura and plant-type domain, then senses that the beast has noticed him 10.
  • Soul-beast detection: Detects a soul-beast aura in his home, although Su Mo’s transfer technique causes him to misidentify its source 9 10.

Smithing and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer

  • Instruction: Teaches Tang San smithing and the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique 2 3.
  • Assessment: Describes the technique as a basic method of exerting force rather than a precious secret 11.
  • Limitation: States that someone without a hammer martial soul cannot bring out much of its power 11.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Lead box: Originally stores Ah Yin’s right leg bone. After the theft, Tang Hao transfers Ah Yin and her surrounding soil into it; the box weighs at least two hundred jin 3 10.
  • Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone: A Hundred-Thousand-Year soul bone left by Ah Yin for Tang San. Froggy steals it, and Su Mo later absorbs it 2 3 8.
  • Black robe: Used while concealing his identity outside Holy Soul Village 10 25.
  • Jet-black token: Gives it to Yu Xiaogang during their confrontation, accidentally striking and further injuring his leg 34.

Relationships

  • Ah Yin — Wife and Tang San’s mother. Tang Hao safeguards her surviving plant form and searches for her stolen soul bone 3 10.
  • Tang San — Son and smithing pupil. Tang Hao secretly follows him, protects him from powerful enemies, and conceals the truth about his mother and family history 11 26 37.
  • Su Mo — Tang San’s childhood acquaintance, whom Tang Hao encourages his son to befriend. Unknown to Tang Hao, Su Mo receives the stolen soul bone, transfers Xiao Wu’s aura onto Tang San, and drains the family’s Blue Silver Emperor bloodline 8 9 11 13 14.
  • Yu Xiaogang — An acquaintance from twenty years earlier and Tang San’s teacher. Tang Hao assaults him over Tang San’s first soul ring and demands his help reversing the martial-soul swap 34.
  • Da Ming and Er Ming — Opponents in the Soul Hunting Forest. They later agree to direct blame toward Tang Hao and the Clear Sky Sect at Su Mo’s suggestion 26 28 29.
  • Zhao Wuji — Shrek Academy teacher who injures Tang San during the entrance assessment. Tang Hao subsequently confronts and strikes him 48 50.
  • Flender — Shrek Academy’s dean, who recognizes Tang Hao and respectfully addresses him as “Your Excellency Haotian” 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Theft at the Waterfall Cave

After learning that Tang San has twin martial souls, Tang Hao visits Ah Yin to share the news. He discovers the chamber open and her right leg bone missing. His furious release of aura scatters the dust, inadvertently destroying clear footprints left by the thief 3.

He moves Ah Yin into the empty lead box and searches the surrounding area without success. His search reaches the Star Dou Great Forest, but the Myriad Demon King’s attention forces him to flee and abandon the attempt 3 10.

Return to Holy Soul Village

Returning home, Tang Hao senses the soul-beast aura that Su Mo has transferred onto Tang San. He initially suspects an impostor, but accepts his son’s identity after seeing both martial souls. He then wonders whether Tang San’s inherited soul-beast bloodline has awakened 9 10.

He introduces the boxed Blue Silver Emperor as Tang San’s mother, then retreats into evasive explanations: first calling her his mother’s “grave grass,” and later claiming she is a soul beast Ah Yin raised. When Su Mo strips away the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline, Tang Hao mistakes Ah Yin’s distress and decline for a farewell 10 11 13 14.

Secret Protection at Nuoding Academy

Tang Hao secretly follows Tang San to Nuoding Academy. During the Soul Hunting Forest expedition, Yu Xiaogang’s unexpected Clear Sky Hammer shocks him; shortly afterward, he intervenes against Er Ming and Da Ming to protect Tang San’s group 17 25 26.

After witnessing the benefits of whale rubber, Tang Hao confronts Yu Xiaogang over Tang San’s poor first soul ring. Learning that Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer has been exchanged with Luo Sanpao, he initially accuses Yu Xiaogang, then provisionally accepts his denial and orders him to find a reversal. He promises a doctor and caregiver after leaving the teacher severely injured 33 34.

Tang San later returns home to find a farewell letter from his father. Despite apparently leaving, Tang Hao remains nearby as a hidden protector because his son still carries a dangerous soul-beast aura 37.

Shrek Academy Confrontation

Tang Hao watches Zhao Wuji’s entrance assessment and nearly intervenes when Tang San is struck unconscious. Dai Mubai’s plea stops Zhao Wuji before Tang Hao emerges 48.

That night, Su Mo manipulates Zhao Wuji into mistaking Tang Hao for Su Mo in disguise. Zhao Wuji attacks and is kicked through two trees. Flender’s arrival and recognition of the Haotian Douluo finally make Zhao Wuji understand whom he has challenged 50.
