After prying open the elevator's comb plate, Liu Zhi took a step back and looked at the corpses with a grin.

With nothing stopping them anymore, the corpses seemed to awaken all at once, trying to crawl out from beneath the elevator.

But they had been crushed by the elevator so many times that their flesh had nearly turned to mush.

Before, they had been able to form arms and grab people above them only because of the elevator's power. Now that its power was gone, separating the corpses' flesh—which had all run together—into one person or another was no easy task.

Liu Zhi smiled and pointed at a Fallen.

The Fallen hesitated, then went over and tugged at a corpse.

All it pulled out was a lump of flesh like mud.

Liu Zhi stepped forward and pried open more of the elevator's comb plates. He found that the same thing had happened farther along; even the various parts beneath the elevator were covered in flesh. The fleshy corpses struggled to escape, but couldn't get free.

"That's enough."

Liu Zhi had no intention of watching any longer. He already knew how this kind of elevator worked and what sort of thing it was.

He took out a staff that looked like a branch and tapped the elevator with it.

The branch began growing on its own, quickly turning into a fairly large tree.

Its roots wedged themselves into the elevator's conveyor belt and engine. The elevator, which had once lured people aboard before pulling them inside, was now jammed solid.

Once that was done, Liu Zhi reached toward the elevator and grabbed. Something cobbled together from countless souls was dragged out of it.

It looked like a giant worm, but its body was translucent, with many souls visible inside.
