An Unexpected Discovery

As Liu Zhi poured Mana into it, the Corpse Soul Naga's body seemed as though it had been washed with water, becoming noticeably more agile.

Yet Liu Zhi wore an unhappy expression. The bit of Mana he had just invested was like adding lubricant to a car—it was not the power the car needed to run, but something that still had to be added to keep it from breaking down.

After seeing that the Corpse Soul Naga's condition had improved somewhat, Liu Zhi waved his hand, intending to send it back down.

Just then, a notification popped up before him.

[Notice: Due to your long-term adjustments to a type of Undead Servant, you have grasped methods of strengthening this type of Undead Servant.] [Necromantic Knowledge (Extraordinary: Corpse Soul Naga): You have grasped methods for strengthening Corpse Soul Nagas, including but not limited to arm enhancement, weapon enhancement, armor enhancement, Mana enhancement, instinct enhancement, and more.] [Description: Undead Servants do not simply require no further attention once they are created. Necromancers need to use various methods to strengthen their Undead Servants.]

Reading the description, Liu Zhi could not help but sigh. Though the notification contained only a few short lines, countless methods of strengthening Corpse Soul Nagas had already appeared in his mind.

For instance, replacing a Corpse Soul Naga's arms, infusing it with Mana of a yin nature, concocting potions that could revitalize its muscles, and so on.

All of these could take the Corpse Soul Naga another step forward, perhaps even gradually grant it its own intelligence until it eventually became the strongest among Nagas—the Eight-Armed Naga Queen.

"Even you have a direction for strengthening now, while I have nothing. I became a necromancer and only have the Summoning skill, yet I have no idea what it can do."

Waving his hand to dismiss the Corpse Soul Naga, Liu Zhi leaned on his Death Long Staff and headed toward the pyramid again. He was unwilling to be surpassed by an Undead Servant just like that. He needed to keep looking and see if there were any other clues.

Just as Liu Zhi turned to head upward, he suddenly noticed a faint glint in the distance.

Liu Zhi's eyes lit up. Reaching into his pocket, he placed the Lightning Coral stone atop his Death Long Staff.

Then he cautiously made his way toward where the reflection had come from.

He had never noticed this over the past few days. Could there be some other undiscovered secret in this city besides himself?

With that thought in mind, Liu Zhi slowly walked over. If he had had a longsword in hand, he might have drawn it and advanced with staff in hand like a true mage.

Yet when he reached the spot where the glint had come from, Liu Zhi found nothing at all. Aside from dust, there was only rotten soil. There was not the slightest trace that humans had ever lived here.

Liu Zhi took a deep breath. He did not believe he had imagined it. Releasing his grip on the Death Long Staff, he let the two-meter-long staff float behind him, within easy reach.

He then carefully moved forward, turning over the stones buried beneath the dust and sand.

Before long, Liu Zhi unearthed a flattened doll. However, unlike an ordinary cloth doll that girls played with, this doll was cast from gold, its patterns brimming with the style of Mayan civilization.

"This is..." Liu Zhi picked up the doll, and sunlight unexpectedly filtered through the leaves and shone upon it. A ray of reflected light shot directly into Liu Zhi's eyes.

The strange occurrence caught Liu Zhi off guard.

He immediately began taking it seriously, holding the flattened doll as he repeatedly examined it from every angle.

Over the past few days, he had seen quite a few things from Mayan and Incan civilizations and had managed to discern some patterns. With Mayan artifacts, the first step was to determine which god they belonged to. Only by following that lead could one understand what the patterns represented.

But just as Liu Zhi was searching for clues, the golden doll rapidly decayed in his hand, turning into black soil and falling to the ground.

The sight startled Liu Zhi. He had never heard of gold rusting and rotting away. What was this supposed to mean? Fake gold?

But someone had clearly lured him here. Why would they not leave him enough clues?

Still puzzled, Liu Zhi finally shifted his attention away from the pyramid. He realized that the enormous Golden City before him was also a tremendous treasure trove. What he could not find inside the pyramid might still leave clues elsewhere in the city.

At first, he had thought one hundred and fifty days was far too much time. Now, it seemed that one hundred and fifty days was not long at all. If he wanted to search the place thoroughly, he might only be able to make a rough sweep of the Golden City.

"If I want to search in detail, I can only focus on the north and east. The north should be the most chaotic slum district. If there's any hidden force, it will definitely be hiding there. The east is the noble district, so major inheritances should have left all kinds of information there. But before that, I should find somewhere to learn the writing used here. If I can't understand the language, finding something valuable will be useless."

Having reached a conclusion, Liu Zhi glanced once more at the soil the golden doll had turned into.

He was still somewhat worried. The situation before him made him uneasy, and he had no idea what was going on.

From what he had seen, someone had deliberately drawn him here.

Just as Liu Zhi was preparing to leave, his vision suddenly darkened, as though someone had appeared before him.

Without hesitation, Liu Zhi reached back with his left hand, and the Death Long Staff dropped into his grip. At the same time, a bolt of lightning locked onto one of the enemies and struck.

But the lightning passed straight through the enemy and blasted down a large tree behind it. In the flash of lightning, Liu Zhi finally saw what they looked like. They were desiccated mummies, their faces covered by golden masks and black obsidian Macuahuitls in their hands.

One look was enough to tell that they had just emerged from a graveyard. Everything on their bodies and in their hands was undoubtedly burial treasure.

Liu Zhi did not hesitate. He immediately swung the Death Long Staff at the enemies and sent a signal for the Corpse Soul Naga to come assist him.

But Liu Zhi was astonished to discover that no matter how he attacked, the Death Long Staff could not strike the enemies.

Nor did those enemies seem to intend to attack Liu Zhi. They merely kept hopping in place, as though conducting some sort of ritual.

Although Liu Zhi had already become a necromancer, he was still frightened by such a bizarre situation. When he tried to closely observe their movements, he felt like vomiting. Yet when he tried to look away, a strange drumbeat faintly reached his ears, drawing his gaze back toward them. Gradually, his body went numb, until he could no longer move at all.
