"An eagle?" Liu Zhi looked up in surprise. Over the past few days, he had gone through all the myths and legends of the three civilizations of South America, forcibly piling his Occultism Knowledge up to Level 2. Naturally, he knew what an eagle represented in South American mythology.
The Aztec civilization had once seen an eagle clutching a snake and landing on a cactus. Believing it to be land bestowed by the gods, they built their city there.
And among the Aztec civilization's three great warrior orders, Eagle Warriors were as renowned as Jaguar Warriors and Archer Warriors.
So when an eagle appeared in the sky, Liu Zhi could not help growing tense.
The eagle seemed to have noticed Liu Zhi as well. Though it had already flown past overhead, it suddenly turned around and dove straight toward him.
In a flash, the Corpse Soul Naga appeared before Liu Zhi, her four weapons all pointed toward the sky.
The eagle swooped directly at the Corpse Soul Naga's face, talons extended.
Seeing this, Liu Zhi did not hesitate. He raised the Death Long Staff, and a bolt of lightning shot from its tip, blasting the eagle out of the sky.
The Corpse Soul Naga picked up the slightly charred giant eagle and handed it to Liu Zhi.
The moment he examined it, Liu Zhi's expression darkened. A bronze message tube hung from the giant eagle's leg, containing a parchment covered in writing.
Liu Zhi pulled out the parchment and read it carefully. "Damn competitors. These are clearly enemies, aren't they?"
He angrily tossed the parchment onto the ground as he spoke.
No wonder he was angry. There was not much written on the parchment, but every word targeted Liu Zhi.
It was a message sent by a force called the Serpent Attack Tribe to other factions, directed at seven or eight tribes of varying sizes in the jungle, including the Deer Eater Tribe and the Eagle Tribe.
It said that the demon sealed within the Golden City had found a way to escape by taking advantage of the giant serpent's once-every-seven-years feeding time. Now the demon was about to flee the Golden City, and all tribes were asked to uphold the ancient covenant, gather together, and crusade against and reseal the demon.
It also stated that after learning of the demon, White-skinned People from the East were willing to provide cursed weapons to aid everyone. Any tribe willing to join the battle could receive ten cursed weapons that spat fire.
Of course, transporting the weapons in would take some time, so they first needed to send people over to see whether the demon had truly been released.
This period would serve as preparation time. The formal attack would begin ninety days later and continue until the demon was sealed or killed.
So?
These guys already saw me as dead?
Looking at the message, Liu Zhi was about to explode.
He had merely inherited the Golden City's legacy and taken up the Necromancer class. It was a class even the game recognized, so how had he become a demon?
And they were organizing people to come after him. Why did this feel so much like Imhotep being besieged?
But Imhotep was at least a Legendary mummy. What was Liu Zhi supposed to be? One man facing seven or eight jungle tribes, and those tribes even had guns?
At that thought, Liu Zhi's scalp went numb.
Turning to look at the Corpse Soul Naga guarding his side, Liu Zhi finally pulled himself together.
"Good. We still have a chance, don't we? Maybe if we kill the organizer, they won't come. Or we could kill the White-skinned People providing the cursed weapons. Why does that sound so familiar? Could they be talking about those Westerners outside the jungle? But where would they get weapons? Damn, the ones still in the jungle at this point... could they be Perkin and the others?"
As soon as he thought of this, Liu Zhi grew anxious. He was now somewhat regretting not killing Perkin and Lloyd before coming to search for the Golden City.
After muttering to himself for a while, Liu Zhi finally realized that the dead eagle was still lying before him.
His eyes lit up, and he quickly pounced forward, lifting the dead eagle.
Since entering the Golden City, he had not seen flesh and blood for quite a long time. Holding the dead eagle, Liu Zhi pressed a hand against the pyramid-shaped ornament at his waist. "Corpse Soul Naga, wait here. I'm going into the Underworld Palace for a moment."
After saying that, Liu Zhi hesitated. "Right. If any other enemies sneak in, kill them on sight."
Only then did Liu Zhi press the Underworld Palace altar at his waist and vanish before the Corpse Soul Naga.
Having received Liu Zhi's order, the Corpse Soul Naga swiftly moved out. Her objective was clear: first, she would inspect the surroundings for intruders. After all, the eagle had flown in from outside the valley, and it certainly had not come merely to look at the valley's interior. It had probably been delivering a message.
At the very least, the Corpse Soul Naga could determine where the eagle had been headed.
After returning to the Underworld Palace, Liu Zhi frowned. Daytime in this underworld was quite unpleasant. There was no sun in the sky, but there was a detestable golden glow.
Under that light, he always felt as though his entire body was about to turn into gold.
It had none of the tranquil beauty found beneath the red moon at night.
But Liu Zhi had no time to care about that now. He quickly headed toward the pyramid ruins.
That was the Underworld Palace's main base. Only there could Liu Zhi easily control everything within the Underworld Palace.
When he reached the pyramid ruins, Liu Zhi extended his hand. The Death Long Staff, which had been floating behind him, landed in his left hand, while a small burial-mound-like model appeared in his right hand: [Mass Grave Blueprint].
Liu Zhi had possessed this item for quite some time. There was plenty of open space in the Underworld Palace, yet he had never built it.
It was not because he lacked sufficient materials, but because he had never been able to find the flesh and blood needed to activate the [Mass Grave].
In this Golden City, Liu Zhi had been living entirely on fruit. Over the past few days, he had not even found an earthworm, let alone any flesh and blood.
Now that an eagle had foolishly flown right into his hands, Liu Zhi only hesitated briefly between having a hearty meal and activating the [Mass Grave] before making the right choice.
There would be plenty of chances to eat meat later. But against competitors who regarded him as a demon, Liu Zhi needed a force that could fight for him.
He tossed the burial-mound-like model in his hand into the air, then lifted the dead eagle he had brought with him again.
As the little burial mound was thrown out, a green hill formed from countless grave mounds appeared in a corner of the Underworld Palace. Most of those mounds had no headstones, but they were piled layer upon layer, making them seem exceptionally numerous.
Only then did Liu Zhi throw out the dead eagle in his hand as well.
The next instant, a rain of blood fell over the Mass Grave. Amid the blood rain, skeletal and decayed hands stretched out from the grave mounds, struggling to crawl free.
