Luring the Enemy In

"Come on, look here. Over this way."

Jeff was the captain of a Dreadnought. Even the outermost Dreadnought was still a Dreadnought. His favorite thing to do each day was sit at his station on the bridge and direct his men as they cleaned.

Today was no different. But at that moment, a voice kept echoing in his mind.

Jeff felt something was off. The bridge was buried beneath layers of Iron Plate. Where was he supposed to look?

Still, he turned toward the direction the voice came from. For some reason, today he could see through the walls of the bridge and out across the sea.

This did not surprise Jeff. Instead, it felt perfectly natural to him.

He saw a strange ship on the sea, one he had only ever seen in books. It was propelled by the wind. Wasn't that what textbooks called a Ghost Ship?

"Something from hundreds of years ago dares show up here?"

Jeff snorted. "Turn us around. We're heading over there."

As Jeff pointed to a spot on the map, his staff officer hurried over to dissuade him. "Captain, we still have a mission."

"What's there to worry about? I've spotted a Ghost Ship. This is a blessing from the Sea God. There's nothing for us to do here. If we don't hurry, someone else will snatch up the rewards for taking down the Ghost Ship."

The staff officer had no way to talk him out of it. Every sailor who went to sea knew that there was no need to fear encountering a Ghost Ship. They never stayed for long, and anyone who attacked one would enjoy good luck for the next day or two.

The higher-ups, however, didn't really believe any of that. They attacked Ghost Ships simply because they looked
