Terraces of Spirit Fields connected across the mountains, some planted with spirit rice, others with spirit herbs or other Spirit Plants.
As Su Yu walked along, he looked around and saw that the spirit rice and spirit herbs grown in the market's Spirit Fields were somewhat better than those in the Su Family's Medicine Garden.
Seeing Su Yu's curious gaze wandering from side to side, Su Jingbang said, "The Spirit Fields here can be rented."
"Most cultivators who remain in the market make their living from these Spirit Fields."
"But such a life is ultimately lived under another's roof. The cost of renting Spirit Fields can basically be considered farming for the Cloud Sword Sect."
He paused as he spoke.
Su Jingbang then said with a hint of wistfulness, "Back then, our Su Family ancestors built up the first foundation of the family in this market."
"Later, they gained a foothold in Jiang City and established the Medicine Garden. Only then did they slowly accumulate the family estate we have today."
Su Yu and the other Su Family members were all moved by those words.
The hardships of going from a Rogue Cultivator to a cultivation family were beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
Even though the Su Family was still weak.
This was already the result of the efforts of more than a dozen generations.
Su Jingbang looked at Su Yu and said, "If you don't want to remain in the Medicine Garden in the future, striving to come here would be pretty good too."
"With the Alchemy Pavilion as a foundation, cultivating here would at least be far better than being an ordinary Rogue Cultivator."
As they talked, the group headed toward the center of the market.
Along the way, they saw other cultivators coming and going, as well as cultivators casting spells in the Spirit Fields to tend the Spirit Plants.
At the heart of a valley stood the center of Cloud Mountain Market. Mist coiled between the mountains, and white-robed cultivators flashed past through the air, painting a scene straight out of an immortal realm.
The Su Family Alchemy Pavilion was located in the middle of the third main street on the eastern side of the market, where foot traffic was quite heavy.
The one in charge of operating the Alchemy Pavilion was Su Yun, the Su Family's Second Elder. He was a high-grade Rank 1 alchemist with an eccentric temperament and few words.
After entering the Alchemy Pavilion and meeting Su Yun, Su Yu and the others respectfully bowed. Su Yun did not even glance at them, only looking toward Su Jingbang.
Su Jingbang took out two Universe Rings and handed them to Su Yun. "Second Elder, these are this month's spirit herb goods."
After examining them with his divine sense, Su Yun frowned and said unhappily, "The quality is still just as poor."
Su Jingbang smiled. "It's actually improved somewhat compared to before."
Su Yu had originally wanted to make himself familiar with him, so that he could apprentice himself to the Second Elder when he sought to become an alchemist in the future. But after Su Yun accepted the spirit herbs, he merely waved a hand, telling Su Jingbang and the others to make themselves at home before turning and returning to the Alchemy Pavilion's rear courtyard.
Su Jingbang and the others were accustomed to this. He looked at Su Yu and said, "All right, you're free to do as you please now."
"We'll stay the night at the Alchemy Pavilion tonight and head back tomorrow afternoon."
Seeing Su Yu blinking at him expectantly, Su Jingbang rubbed his bald head and muttered with some distaste, "Fine. I was originally planning to get some sleep—I'll take you around the market."
A smile immediately bloomed on Su Yu's face, and he said repeatedly, "Ah, ah, that's great. I'll treat you to good wine tonight."
The others dispersed happily without joining in.
The two left the Alchemy Pavilion, and under Su Jingbang's lead, began touring the market.
Most of the market consisted of shops, though there were also places specifically set aside for Rogue Cultivators to set up stalls.
Su Jingbang asked, "Is there anything you want to buy?"
Su Yu pondered for a moment. "Cultivation resources, such as Monster Beast Essence Blood. And I also want to see whether there's anything strange and cheap."
Su Jingbang thought for a moment. "Monster Beast Essence Blood is easy enough. Strange and cheap things... Your interests are a little odd, kid."
"Come with me. There happens to be a place that should suit you."
Su Yu followed Su Jingbang deeper inside, arriving before a three-story wooden building in the northern part of the market. When Su Yu saw the plaque on the building, his heart jolted.
"Heavenly Script Pavilion?" Su Yu stood there blankly for a moment.
That name—
He knew it quite well. Just like Moon Worship Immortal City, there had been one in the cultivation game he played in his previous life.
It specialized in selling all sorts of bizarre things, but all those things were connected to one thing.
Ancient Jade Boxes!
The Heavenly Script Pavilion purchased or collected Ancient Jade Boxes from all over. It either opened them itself or sold them, and it would also purchase things customers had opened from Ancient Jade Boxes to sell.
Thus, the Heavenly Script Pavilion was a rather bizarre force—or perhaps, a mysterious one.
Back in the game, everything produced by the Heavenly Script Pavilion had unknown properties. Whether it was treasure or trash depended entirely on luck.
This place was a complete gold-devouring beast.
Su Yu had not expected to see the Heavenly Script Pavilion in Cloud Mountain Market.
"What are you spacing out for? Let's go in and take a look." Su Jingbang snapped Su Yu out of it, and the two entered the Heavenly Script Pavilion.
The Heavenly Script Pavilion was divided into many sections. The most conspicuous one sold Ancient Jade Boxes.
This thing was clearly quite a scam.
Yet after entering the Heavenly Script Pavilion, Su Yu saw that the most crowded place was precisely there.
Su Yu bared his teeth and cursed inwardly, A bunch of gambling dogs.
His goal was clear. Once he knew this was the Heavenly Script Pavilion, he looked around briefly after entering, then headed toward an area marked Ancient Classics.
Su Jingbang glanced at him. "I'll look around. Just call me when you're ready to leave."
Su Yu waved back at him, then quickly walked to a bookshelf and began examining the books one by one. Most of the books here contained only the opening portions and were incomplete. If one wanted the full version, one had to buy it.
What he wanted was a cultivation technique like the "Crocodile Demon's 108 Forms Body Refining Technique."
Such techniques were difficult for others to cultivate, perhaps even impossible to master.
Yet their power was quite formidable.
To others, such techniques were as tasteless as chicken ribs, but to him, they were treasures.
"The Wushan Chronicle."
"Sixty-Eight Strange Tales of Guanhai."
"Demon King of Cangzhou."
Su Yu flipped through book after book. Most were merely stories, biographies, and the like. There were also some cultivation techniques and spells, but they were too severely incomplete to be of any use.
More than an hour passed. Among a pile of ancient books on the third bookshelf, Su Yu had just opened one volume when his brows stirred slightly.
"Azure Wood Age Wheel Art."
The name was somewhat strange. As Su Yu read further, realization dawned on him.
This was a Wood attribute cultivation technique.
Legend had it that in the Ancient Era, there was an ancient tree in the immortal realm that held up the heavens, called Azure Wood. Above, it could reach the Heaven-Connecting Dao; below, it could probe reincarnation.
One year, one cycle; one turn, one reincarnation.
This was a marvelous technique founded upon Azure Wood as the Great Dao. If one could cultivate it to completion, one would gain the wonder of longevity.
However—
This thing actually required the primordial aura of Azure Wood for Foundation Establishment!
Moreover, this ancient text contained the research notes of quite a few people, including a legendary figure from the Cloud Sword Sect in the past. Even True Lord Moon Worship of Moon Worship Immortal City had once studied it.
Yet without exception, none had been able to see through it.
Things like this were not rare. Take the "Crocodile Demon's 108 Forms Body Refining Technique," for example—this Body Refining Technique was actually very powerful.
Yet after being passed down for so many years, not a single person had been able to master it.
To other cultivators, wasn't that as tasteless as chicken ribs, or even outright trash?
Su Yu did not know whether he could cultivate it, but looking at it, he was indeed tempted. Good stuff.
However, he was in no rush. Instead, he continued reading.
There would not be few things like the "Azure Wood Age Wheel Art," especially in a place like the Heavenly Script Pavilion.
