Like most RPGs, adventurers' equipment in Orario fell into two categories.
The first was equipment made by blacksmiths; the other was extremely rare gear dropped by monsters.
Monster drops could sometimes be the armor they wore or the weapons they wielded.
When a monster died, there was a very small chance that such equipment would drop, just like monster materials.
Adventurers could usually use dropped weapons and equipment right away. But to find out whether they had any special abilities, they needed to have them "appraised."
Like "smithing," "appraisal" was one of the Falna abilities that only a few adventurers could acquire.
Adventurers with a Falna ability like this "secondary profession" didn't have to go into the Dungeon and fight monsters to the death like other common adventurers, risking their lives every day.
Adventurers with this ability were usually in high demand, whether at the Guild or within a Familia, because appraisal fees alone could bring in a considerable income.
"Of course, the Guild has people skilled at appraisal. I even have a fairly high level of the 'Appraisal' ability myself; otherwise, I wouldn't have been appointed as a Guild receptionist.
"But usually, appraisal is only needed for high-grade materials or special equipment dropped by monsters, and you have to pay a fee to have those things appraised.
"This kind of knowledge is a bit early for you two. Don't tell me you've already found a drop that needs appraising at this stage..."
