The Trial of Life and Death

Ever since Reilo had become Vice Dean of the Grand Natural Sciences Academy, his so-called Trial of Life and Death—a chance to receive an evolutionary inoculation, but only after signing a confidentiality contract—had become a hot topic of discussion throughout the academy.

For the academy's scholars to take part in the program, they had to complete certain tasks, which undoubtedly required a great deal of time. So far, not a single person had met the requirements and experienced Reilo's so-called Trial of Life and Death.

But that didn't mean Reilo had any free time.

Almost every day, anywhere from a dozen to several dozen people came to the Grand Natural Sciences Academy through various channels to visit the legendary scholar whose name was on everyone's lips.

They were usually senior scholars or people with special connections.

After arriving at Reilo's office, they would often disappear mysteriously for a time. Most would reappear a few days or a couple of weeks later, while some vanished forever.

Today, another twenty-odd people arrived at Reilo's office. They sat on the waiting benches, their expressions grave.

After a long while,

Reilo finished his audience with His Majesty the Chen King and drifted into his office from the back of a griffin. He tossed it a piece of meat, and the griffin caught it in its beak, spread its wings, and flew toward the capital of Saint Grand Fort.

He looked at the scholars who had been waiting for him.

"Sorry for the wait, everyone."

Aside from one young fellow who had clearly come through connections, the others were all venerable scholars with deep foundations.

They stepped forward, but Na Yesi stopped them outside the designated safe zone.

"I'm terribly sorry, but I have something urgent to deal with first. Please wait a moment!"
