Background / History

Origins and Church Rule

The academic community’s origins extend back more than two thousand years by the time of Windsor’s curvature research breakthrough, although its formally established history then spans roughly nine hundred years. Much of its early development occurred under Church suppression 746.

Antonio’s investigation of ancient fossils helped inspire the Grand Natural Sciences Academy’s study of biological evolution. After more than eight hundred years of research, Gran Scholars attained Pioneer power through True Bodies, gaining abilities comparable to those of gods 587. “Pioneer” originally honored the scholars who opened new branches of knowledge during the first academic explosion 163.

Scholars were not initially an independent political force. They served as auxiliaries to the Church’s Holy Knights, including campaigns against the Blood Demons of the Night’s Veil Land 912. Within the Grand Duchy, noble families controlled farmland, mines, transport hubs, and academy resources. Reilo’s later revolution against these nobles inspired secret scholarly organizations to assassinate members of the aristocracy 606.

Independence and the Academy Alliance

Reilo’s academic conference introduced high-ranking scholars to civilization levels, law-weapon warfare, and the Superhuman invasion. He proposed a unified Scholars’ Alliance and shared the Superhuman specimen ZZ with Xilan researchers 476 477 479.

The Grand Natural Sciences Academy subsequently expanded its Wind Eye and established medium-range crystal-ball communication with Corleon 644. Sixteen academies within the enlarged central Wind Eye shared intelligence and coordinated responses to dangerous creatures 654.

The proposed Alliance structure designated three cornerstone academies and seven central academies, with positions determined through competition. Academies refusing participation risked classification as “rogue academies,” exclusion from resource distribution, and restrictions on establishing academies within the storm’s-eye region 661. During the associated gathering, a Superhuman attack devastated X Advancement Academy and endangered its Energy Source and Wind Eye 676.

Second Golden Age

The Dark Night Expedition destroyed the Blood Mother Nest civilization after four years and seven months. More than fifty expedition members died—nearly one-fifth of those who had set out. The mission also destroyed ninety-seven Wind Eyes, surveyed nine, and recovered resources including the T-Gene Engineering Blueprints 804.

Over the following sixty years, returning scholars trained successors, while education, culture, and technology expanded. A confident new generation ushered in the Second Golden Age, and the Wasteland’s cultural influence began drawing Middle Earth residents toward the academies 804 807.

The Academic World also began evaluating nearby advanced civilizations as strategic threats. Its leadership favored attacking the Black Death Civilization before the Tidal Civilization because the former possessed more dangerous Cataclysm-war and spacetime capabilities 841.

Third Golden Age

The second expedition to the Super Refining Wind Eye destroyed the Gray Bean Civilization. Over the next 120 years, the Ten Elders Council’s Spacetime Fortress transported technology and wealth from the conquered region, including Star Melter knowledge and large reserves of Gray Beans 893.

Star Melters became integrated members of society and transformed alchemy and production. Anti-gravity vehicles, energy firearms, urban clusters, skyscrapers, and widespread crystal-ball communication characterized the Third Golden Age 893.

This growth brought the Academic World to an estimated Level 4.5, but Magnetic Pole’s intervention prompted the Destroyer Civilization to attack before its projected development toward Lighthouse status could be completed 898.

War Against the Destroyers

The Destroyers issued a one-month ultimatum promising to annihilate all Scholars. Reilo attempted negotiations, but their leader, Liyou, refused and destroyed the communication device 902.

Most Scholars favored a preemptive Cataclysm strike. Reilo repeatedly vetoed these proposals, and his faction ultimately secured a plan for direct confrontation instead. The Academy of Profound Light and Blue Sky Engineering Academy became strategic buffers, while X Advancement Academy served as the principal bridgehead 903.

Initial reconnaissance exposed a severe combat disadvantage: elite Scholars won only about two in ten encounters against same-rank Destroyers, and none captured a live specimen 904. Destroyer spacetime technology bypassed the Wind Barrier, overwhelming the first defenses 905.

The invaders then spent a month and a half systematically exterminating Scholars across occupied territory. Thirty-odd affiliated academy cities and thousands of settlements were devastated, but this slow advance also gave Reilo and An Liya time to reinforce X Advancement Academy 912.

At the bridgehead, nonhuman allies, Holy Magic Tools, advanced artifacts, and home-field defenses helped Scholars maintain a relatively balanced confrontation against Destroyer Chieftains 935. Continued research produced countermeasures, including early saturation attacks intended to kill Destroyers before their battle intent could build 916 936.

Peace talks followed Rage’s acquisition of Galaxy Roar and succession as clan chief. The Academic World received no compensation, but the Central Civilization issued a declaration that publicized its coordinates and extended protection. Formal Council membership had not yet been granted 962.

Council Admission and the Little Ice Age

To obtain full Central Civilization support, Reilo organized a campaign against the Oracle Sorcerers. He traveled with Shura Path and Hei’erwen, destroying eight lesser civilizations before locating their target 965.

The Oracle Sorcerers’ extermination secured the Academic World’s entry into the Storm Continent Council. Its seat was formally acknowledged at a Council assembly, where Reilo presented it as an open, knowledge-based civilization rather than a purely racial one 980 985.

Meanwhile, a Little Ice Age lasting approximately fifty years caused food shortages, unrest, and mass extinctions 980. Reilo neutralized the shattered rift zone above the Wasteland and shortened its remaining recovery to five years 982. The cold also drove academies into Middle Earth, whose subsequent development outpaced the Wasteland over the following century 987.

Fourth Golden Age

Technology supplied by the Pressurized Civilization, Ghost Spirit Sword Clan, and Central Civilization triggered the Fourth Golden Age. Unlike earlier breakthroughs concentrated in particular fields, this expansion encompassed alchemy, life genetics, energy systems, curvature spacetime, and law weapons 1045.

Controllable Artificial Sun technology elevated the Academic World to Level 5 Beacon status. Its territory expanded across the former Night’s Veil Land and surrounding seas and inland regions 1045. By this period, its registered Academic Taidous numbered nearly two hundred, and its regular strength surpassed that of the declining Central Civilization 1046.

Void War and Migration

The Academic World dispatched a curvature fleet to join the Council’s campaign against the Superhumans, while retaining Taidous and elite Scholars—including Tianci and Lucy—to preserve a surviving legacy if the expedition failed 1053.

In the void, fusion-grade Radiation Law Weapons killed thousands of Superhumans without securing a decisive advantage 1063. Later fighting involved chaotic particle weapons, Hei’erwen’s miniature Starfield, and severe injuries to Reilo from the titled Superhuman Pulse 1081. The Academic World committed two Rootless Origins to the allied war effort 1083.

After more than a dozen large-scale migrations over a century, almost all Scholars relocated to the Frost Continent. Some died during the journeys, and a small number chose to remain in their ancestral homes. The migrants nevertheless became the Frost Continent’s strongest external force, while the Ancient and Central civilizations faded into historical records 1112.
