Background / History

Yu Xiaogang returns to Notting Academy during Tang San and Ye Ying's enrollment dispute. After reviewing their Martial Soul Hall certificates, he recognizes that Tang San's materialized Blue Silver Fox cannot account for her Innate Full Soul Power and deduces that she possesses Twin Martial Souls. Seeing the Clear Sky Hammer confirms his judgment and convinces him that Tang San can validate his theories. 8 12

Tang San initially approaches him as a prospective disciple, but Ye Ying's plot alteration changes the request into a confession. Xiaogang ultimately agrees to date her and continues serving as her teacher. 8 9

He takes Tang San and Ye Ying into the Soul Hunting Forest to obtain their first Soul Rings. While instructing them on Soul Beasts and survival, he reveals Luo Sanpao and protects the group with his Soul Skill. A Mandala Snake later bites Luo Sanpao, poisoning Xiaogang through their shared connection. Tang San's attempted treatment culminates in the removal of his poisoned right arm, leaving him permanently one-armed. 14 15 17 18

During a later Soul Hunting Forest expedition, Tang San absorbs the plant-type Ghost Vine Soul Ring through her beast-type Blue Silver Weasel Martial Soul. Xiaogang treats this outcome as proof of his Martial Soul Mimicry Theory, though Ye Ying points out that Tang San had been used as an experiment without being informed of the risk. 39 41

After arriving at Shrek Academy, Xiaogang becomes an instructor for the Shrek students and takes responsibility for the academy cafeteria after Tang San's defense of him is redirected against him. 81 95 134 He later loses a vote to lead the Shrek Eight Devils' intensive training, allowing Ye Ying to take command instead. 141

Following the Shrek Eight Devils' victory over the Royal Fighting Team, Xiaogang reunites with his nephew Yu Tianheng. He counsels Tianheng to abandon the pride tied to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family and learn from defeat. 170 171

Yu Xiaogang is a thin, medium-built man who appears to be in his forties or fifties. He has an ordinary face, short black hair parted three-to-seven, and usually carries himself with his hands clasped behind his back. 8
