I carefully recalled the differences between the two dreams and became more certain of what I'd suspected.
The game had definitely changed. That meant Steve had changed as well.
This didn't help much with my current predicament.
I just felt a little more at ease.
At least, in the game as it was now, I no longer had to worry about being played to death.
I left the archives and headed for the next room.
Just then, I heard a door open.
The sound came from the front entrance.
Someone had entered Greenleaf Paranormal Agency.
My nerves instantly went taut. I pushed open the door, slipped inside as quietly and quickly as I could, then shut it again.
The room was lit. The light came from the computer monitor, the lights on the computer tower, and the keyboard.
The monitor showed the desktop, with no programs open. There were only the usual system icons and no clues. Even the wallpaper was the default one, displaying the computer brand and operating system logos.
I glanced around, confirmed there was no one in the room and no ghosts, then focused on the door.
Quite a few people had come in. I couldn't tell exactly how many from their scattered footsteps, but they weren't walking quickly.
I sensed no yin energy. The newcomers probably weren't ghosts.
That made things more troublesome.
I heard people talking, but from where I was, I couldn't make out what they were saying.
The quiet didn't last long.
I heard heavy footsteps, running now.
The front door slammed shut, but soon I heard it being battered. Someone was pounding on it—and then came gunshots!
I heard screams and sobbing.
Their loud voices made their words clear.
