After a brief moment of confusion, I woke fully from the dream.

I was still in the hospital room. The glaring sunlight was a little hard to get used to after spending so long in a dim environment. Fortunately, the discomfort was only temporary.

I blinked. My body felt exhausted, and my injuries seemed to have grown worse. The emptiness inside me left me drowsy and foggy, my eyelids growing unbearably heavy.

When the door opened, I managed to lift my eyelids and saw Chen Xiaoqiu. But sleepiness swept over me, and I couldn't hold on any longer. I saw her raise an eyebrow in surprise, then I fell asleep.

My consciousness sank into darkness. I felt nothing at all.

When I woke a second time, the exhaustion was still there, weighing on me as if I were carrying a thousand pounds. Even opening my eyes was difficult.

The sounds around me grew clearer, then blurred again. More people had gathered by my side, but before long they all left, and the room fell quiet once more.

I drifted back to sleep.

By the time I woke for the third time, I was finally truly alert.

The bright room made me think I had only been asleep for a little while.

Even so, my body instinctively told me otherwise.

"You're awake?"

I heard a voice and turned my head. Chen Xiaoqiu was there.

I drifted into confusion again, unsure how long I had been unconscious.

Chen Xiaoqiu was observant enough to see my question. She answered immediately, "New Year's Day has already passed."

I stared blankly at Chen Xiaoqiu. She didn't look well, and exhaustion showed in her expression, as if she had stayed up for several nights in a row.
