"Who are you?" someone asked.
I tilted my head slightly and saw Ruan Han. But he wasn't the one I was looking for.
I continued farther inside, searching the people in the office.
Two men stepped in front of me. "Hey, you can't go in!"
"Who exactly are you?"
"What are you here for?"
They didn't seem frightened by what I'd just done. Even after seeing one of their coworkers disappear right before their eyes, they still dared to block me.
The people in front of me were alive, but they had chains on them that belonged to the ancient-costumed ghosts.
I was getting irritated. I waved a hand and grabbed the massive chain formed from all those links. In just a second, I'd sorted them out.
I didn't need the living.
I was looking for the ghosts here—the ones who'd come from the future with the ancient-costumed ghost.
I heard startled screams and terrified roars.
Someone lunged at me from behind, but vanished before they could touch me.
The office suddenly fell quiet.
Ruan Han took a step back, his back pressed against the office door.
"I'm looking for the boss here, one of the company's senior members. You must know who I mean. Who turned you into a ghost?" I asked Ruan Han.
His teeth chattered. All he could manage was a clacking sound, and he didn't answer. His face had gone pale, his eyes were wide, and I could see his pupils trembling slightly.
I stared at him for a while, but when no answer came, my patience ran out again.
This irritability had settled over me, bringing back memories of Greenleaf's death and of Mu Ge and Mu Ai, whom I'd failed to save.
The ancient-costumed ghost's judgment of me also wouldn't leave my mind.
I
