Qiong Ying climbed out of the "coffin" and looked back. Its shell was incredibly smooth, like a mirror coated in silver. In that coating, she could clearly see the reflection of "herself."
To put it kindly, she barely looked human. She was tall, thin, and light, clad in a white bodysuit that seemed like skin, with blood vessels running through it and growing into the flesh. It was hard to tell whether she was male or female. Her features were closer to those of a demon that had failed to shapeshift, or a ghost transformed from a monstrous creature. Her smooth white head was unusually large, like an oval goose egg, and completely hairless. A pair of enormous eyes glowed blue, but on closer inspection, her pupils were packed with compound eyes, their grid-like facets as dense as an insect's.
Beside her coffin stood a row of identical silver coffins. Inside each lay an identical person with compound eyes and an egg-shaped head. They were clearly still conscious, staring with open eyes and occasionally rolling them or twitching and convulsing. Yet they were locked inside their coffins, immersed in orange-red pus and unable to move, as if cursed so they could neither live nor die. The sight was horrifying and utterly unnatural.
