After Matthew knocked the unidentified object out of the air, a rustling came from the Gray Fog, as though something were retreating.

A moment later, the Metal Disc in Matthew's mind glimmered. More than a dozen wisps of red light, visible only to him, drifted out of the Gray Fog and were absorbed by the disc.

Matthew walked a dozen or so steps in that direction and saw fleshballs wrapped in roots covering the walls of the passage beyond the Biological Workshop's entrance.

The dense roots across the floor seemed to grow from those fleshballs.

They were probably what had attacked Matthew. They also seemed to know when to back off: once they realized he was no easy prey, they stopped attacking.

But Matthew had come to clear the mutated creatures out of the Wizard Tower. He had no intention of sparing them.

"Fiendfyre." He waved his wand. Golden flames surged up and quickly set the entire wall ablaze.

"Hiss—" The whole wall writhed as the burning fleshballs let out grating shrieks.

The Fiendfyre raged on, and the fleshballs, already afraid of fire, fell silent within a dozen breaths.

"Finite Incantatem." Matthew pointed his wand at the golden flames. They rapidly dissipated, and charred remains began falling from the wall.

Dozens of wisps of red light drifted from the remains and were absorbed by the Metal Disc in his mind.

Each fleshball contained little Red-Light Energy, but there were plenty of them.

Since Matthew's Metal Disc had fused with the Blue Crystal, it could absorb Red-Light Energy without touching a corpse. It could also convert that energy into a source of magic usable by the Wizard Tower's Magic Core.

The Wizard Tower consumed magic every moment, and the Alchemy Workshop Matthew often used was a major drain as well. The
