"Does anyone know how the Werewolf Curse can be transmitted? I wrote about it in Chapter Four of Travels with Werewolves."
"Matthew, you answer."
Lockhart had learned his lesson. He felt that Magical Creatures were still too dangerous for students. Teaching had to proceed step by step, with textbook knowledge as the main focus.
"On nights of the full moon, while they are in wolf form, their blood and saliva carry the Werewolf Curse, Professor," Matthew answered swiftly.
"Correct! Three points to Slytherin." Lockhart nodded in satisfaction.
"Many people overlook one detail: werewolves cannot spread the Werewolf Curse at all times.
"If you have carefully read Travels with Werewolves, you should know that on nights without a full moon, a werewolf's saliva carries no curse at all. However, if you come into contact with their blood, you will still briefly display certain werewolf traits, such as enjoying raw meat with blood in it.
"I tested all of this personally. Of course, it is very dangerous. You are not me, and you cannot protect yourselves nearly as well, so do not casually attempt such dangerous behavior."
"All right, that will be all for today's lesson." Lockhart paused. He had come up with another idea today. "I heard some students say that when Professor Snape substituted for Defense Against the Dark Arts last term, he felt that most students had very poor combat capability and added practical content."
"I feel the same way. Excellent people always think alike."
"I intend to establish a 'Dueling Club' and continue this part of the curriculum."
"My Dueling Club will be open to students across the entire school. There are no requirements—anyone can join!"
"When the time comes, I will invite Professor Snape to organize Dueling Club activities
