Penelope carried the black cat into the dormitory, immediately drawing her roommates' attention.
"Penelope, why did you bring a black cat back? Did Percy buy you a new pet?" a tall girl teased.
A girl with center-parted wavy hair, however, lit up. She tossed the book in her hand onto her bed and hurried over.
She carefully examined the black cat. "Isn't this Matthew Black's Preserved Egg?"
Penelope asked curiously, "You actually know the cat's name?"
The tall girl giggled. "It's not like you don't know. She's a Black fan."
The wavy-haired girl reached out to pet the black cat's head, but he disdainfully dodged her. Undeterred, she instead stroked the fur on his back. "Black is the most eye-catching one on the pitch. He's so handsome. Too bad I'm graduating next year. If only I were a few years younger..."
The tall girl chuckled. "What's wrong with being two years older? Didn't Lisa from the dorm next door find herself a younger boy? I think he's Black's roommate, too."
The wavy-haired girl rolled her eyes. "I sent him a love letter. He rejected me."
Then she suddenly looked at Penelope warily. "How did you end up bringing Preserved Egg back?"
Penelope said with a light laugh, "I ran into him on the way back. It was curfew, and Preserved Egg couldn't get into the common room, so he had to sleep outside. I brought him back with me."
"Let me hold him!" the wavy-haired girl said. Though she could not hold Black, playing with his cat was not bad either.
In the Ravenclaw dormitory corridor, the door to one of the rooms quietly opened a crack.
