The crevice had been excavated by the professional archaeological team.
A deep, dark opening was revealed.
After examining the entrance, the archaeology professor from the University of London could not help sighing repeatedly.
Seeing the rest of the archaeological team grow dejected as well, Matthew asked in confusion, "Professor Smith, did we find some kind of problem?"
Professor Smith sighed. "Thanks to the good fortune Miss Lovegood brought us, we saved quite a bit of time."
"But unfortunately... we came too late... This is a tomb raider's tunnel..."
"Judging by the traces, this hole has probably existed for decades, perhaps even over a century. The wind and sand covered it up."
Matthew understood. This underground ruin had already been ravaged by tomb raiders. There probably would not be much of value left.
Professor Smith pulled himself together. "At this point, all we can do is go down and take a look first."
After a while, one of the archaeological team members who had descended on a rope to inspect the raider's tunnel climbed back up.
The team member said, "Professor Smith, this tunnel leads directly into the ruin's Secret Passage. That passage is more than eighty meters below the surface. I checked it; there's no lack of oxygen inside."
Professor Smith nodded and called for the team to get moving and prepare to descend.
Matthew said with a smile, "Professor Smith, we'd like to come along and take a look too."
Since they were already here, Matthew certainly did not want to miss it.

For a Muggle archaeological team, the dangers of excavation generally came from non-magical issues such as collapses.
